Monday 14th June 2010

The ATS Summer Reception and the society's main social event of the year, achieved a record attendance this year. The event was once again held in the Cholmondeley Room, the House of Lords with its access to the stunning riverside terrace and fabulous views along the River Thames

Members and their guests enjoyed a delightful evening accompanied by Thai music played on traditional instruments by the Thai Music Circle. His Excellency Mr Kitti Wasinondh, The Thai Ambassador, gave a short address. The Society is once again indebted to Lord Geddes for hosting the Reception.

2010 SOAS seminar

On 29 January members of the ATS attended a seminar at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) on "The Thai Political Situation: Wherefrom and Whereto ?" which was jointly organised by the Royal Thai Embassy and the SOAS Thai Society. The topic was discussed by four panelists, Professors Suchit Boonbongkarn, Duncan McCargo, Peter Leyland and Bowornsak Uwann and was moderated by David Fall, currently Chair of the Anglo-Thai Society. Members of the 200 strong audience participated in a lively, and fascinating debate which reflected current political divisions in Thailand.
