2009

The Anglo-Thai Society was very active in 2009. On 15 June 2009, David Fall CMG, former British Ambassador to Thailand, was formally appointed as Chair of the Anglo-Thai Society. Special thanks went to the efforts of our former Chair Mr Kevin Thorn for all the hard work and commitment he provided during his time with the society.

13th -14th March 2009

The Anglo-Thai Society Chairman, David Fall CMG and Vice Chair, Dr Orapin Dawson were invited as guests of the Royal Thai Embassy at a special Reception in honour of the Thai Prime Minister, Hon. Khun Abhisit Vejajitvaj. The reception gave The Thai Prime Minister the opportunity to meet members of the Thai community living in the UK. Vice Chair Dr Orapin Dawson was personally introduced by HE Ambassador Khun Kitti to the Prime Minister and had the opportunity to discuss matters related to the Anglo-Thai Society activities with him.

April & May 2009

The Anglo-Thai Society took part in both an exhibition of memo-photos of King Chulalongkorn, and an excursion to Taplow Court. For those interested, you can also "google" for further information: Siam, Taplow Court, New York Times; or the Times Court Circular during Aug 9 - Oct 5 1897.

There are records of king Chula activities in London & Taplow Ct. His activities were recently shown in a BCC programme on the Victorians broadcast on 08/03/2009.

Songkran Festival at Buddhpadipa Thai Temple, Calonne Road, Wimbledon. Wat Buddhapadipa is unique in Europe. The only Thai temple in the UK purposely built in the Thai architectural style and a perfect place to celebrate Songkran in London. The programme of events includes the chance to make offerings to monks and enjoy Thai food and cultural performances on stage. Free entry, all welcome.
