Welcome to the new year 2013. I hope this year the Society will continue to thrive after a such a successful year in 2012. I feel most honoured and privileged to have been elected to take on the role of Chair of the Society after David Fall, and I hope to build on the achievements of the past few years.

After a successful celebration of our 50^th anniversary last year, the Society remains a friendly and informal organisation, with the aims of promoting mutual understanding and friendship between Thailand and the UK, and the Thai and British Community in the UK. This year we aim to strengthen our relationship with the Thai Business Community and Corporate sector, and enjoy joint events with associated organisations, such as the Tourism Authority of Thailand, Asia House, Royal Over-seas League, Britain-Burma Society and Anglo-Finnish Society. The Society continues to have close relationship with the Royal Thai Embassy and Samaggi Samagom (the Thai Students’ Association in UK).

In addition to our annual favourites (the Summer Reception in the House of Lords, the Educational Excellence Awards and the Christmas lunch), other planned events this year include talks on the development of relations between Britain and Thailand and the Thai film industry, a piano concert, a Thai cooking demonstration, a visit to the Houses of Parliament, a Thames Cruise and joining in celebrations of Songkran and Loy Krathong.  Planning is also underway to organise a trip to Thailand in February 2014.  Please keep an eye on the website for details.
